TV’s Batman Adam West Dies

He was the original caped crusader. The man who first brought the live action version of Batman into our homes. Entertaining countless comic book fans with the campy 60’s television series.

Sad Day for Gotham

By now you’re already aware that Adam West died on Friday June 9th in Los Angeles. He was 88 years old. In a statement from the family, they shared…

“Our dad always saw himself as The Bright Knight, and aspired to make a positive impact on his fans’ lives. He was and always will be our hero”.

Very well said. For me, he was the humorous guard of Gotham and someone who also made me laugh out loud with his voice over work on shows like the Family Guy. People that knew and worked with him agree he was an all around good guy in real life as well.

Batman Dies

Although the Batman series only last for three years, reruns in the late 70’s and early 80’s brought about a whole new legion of fans (myself included).

For most actors, being typecast is the biggest curse imaginable. Adam West was no different initially, but over time he welcomed the connection to the Dark Knight and even admitted enjoying being part of a role with such a wide appeal.

I don’t think West truly received the credit he deserved as an actor. Perhaps more so later in life. Better late than never I suppose. On the plus side though, not many people get to be remembered for eternity as the Batman. Adam West will always be one of the best in my opinion.

How about you?  Who’s your favorite Batman?  How does he stack up to the original?
