From Hope to Grope

Today is the day.  Today a large population of the American people are feeling the country is officially moving from “Hope to Grope” with the inauguration of President-Elect Donald Trump.

Does Hope Really Exist?

When President Obama ran for office, the country was in a very bad place.  People were desperately looking for change and along came a very articulate man who, said all the right things, said them eloquently and projected a sense of optimism that was deperately needed.  He was a long shot, but people wanted something different because they felt they were only getting more of “the same” with the other canadites.

Isn’t this the case, at least to some degree, with the election of Donald Trump?  The people came out in masses and voted in Trump over Clinton, because they believed she represented the old politics. The politics of making deals for corporate interests rather than helping the everyday American.  Under Obama’s presidency did the people truly get the “hope” they wanted?  Personally, I believe we did considering what the man walked into the day he took office. Let’s not forget that America was on the brink of financial disaster which Obama navigated us out of. That aside though, did he promise things he couldn’t deliver?  Sure.  Did he deliver on some? Yes he did.

Grope-gate

Now I’m in no way supporting Donald Trump, so let me be clear about that.  Putting politics aside for a moment, I’m appalled by his behavior during the campaign, as well as the clear picture of how he treats women (a.k.a Grope-gate).  What concerns me most is the message that candidate Trump has delivered to the youth of our country, based his actions throughout the last two years and especially the audio tape that came out between him and Billy Bush.

Here’s why…

During the night of the election, I watched the results with my 15 year old daughter. As we realized Hilary would lose, my daughters turned to me and said “So tonight I learned that America doesn’t want a woman with 30 years of experience leading the country but, instead, believes a pussy grabber will do a better job.”  I literally didn’t know how to respond to that.

Hope-Grope

President Trump

As for the kind of President Trump will be, starting today we’re all going to find out.  The people that voted for him are looking for the brash, tell it like it is Trump they’ve come to know and love.  All I can see coming are four years of a reality TV style presidency and TMZ politics.

Based on the recent Senate hearings and how the transition of power has gone so far, I don’t believe he will be a good president at all.  Quite frankly I don’t think he has a clue what he is doing.  On the other hand, there is a part of me that hopes I’m wrong also. I say that because, as of today, we don’t have a choice.  He IS our president.  Unless his does something so outrageous that would get him impeached.  That isn’t out of the realm of possibility either.

After listening to people I know, even my daughter, you’d think the world is coming to an end. That the next four years means the end of civilization as we know it. That is something I don’t believe. In my estimation nothing will happen. I don’t believe he’ll ever build a wall or do half of the things that he promised throughout his campaign. What I believe is that the country will continue to essentially be run by big money who’s loobiests are greasing political palms to get their initiatives through. All for the benefit of large companies and their shareholders. Trump will continue to say what people want to hear.  He’ll provide great sounds bites over the next four years, but never actually bring about the real change that is wanted so badly by the American people.  He’ll talk a big game and deliver nothing.

So what are your thoughts about today’s inauguation?  Trumps as our president?  Are you optimistic?  Are you scared? I’d love to hear your opinions and know what you have to say good or bad.  This is a place to speak freely, so don’t be afraid to say your peace.
