Lausanne Switzerland

Lausanne Switzerland

It’s been awhile since my last post.  Not because I’ve lost interest in writing and sharing things on my page. No, not at all.  I’ve been AWOL because of work.  Recently the job took me to Lausanne Switzerland and it was amazing.  So much so, I wanted to share a bit of it with you.

Join Me In Lausanne

From my initial research before the trip, it seemed to look like a bit of a old and boring town.  However, once you see it and, in particular Lake Geneva, you’ll quickly realize how beautiful of a place it is.  Lausanne is actually packed with history and culture, as well as filled with restaurants and markets.  In the center of town is beautiful Lake Geneva where you can admire the view of the French alps.

Lausanne has also been home to the International Olympic Committee headquarters since 1914, as well as the Olympic Museum and lakeshore Olympic Park.

Our first day was free of meetings, so my colleagues and I decided to check out our surroundings. We ended up taking the ferry across the lake to Evian France. The trip across Lake Geneva was incredible and the view was breath taking. Once in Evian we walked around the town for a bit and enjoyed a few drinks at a local pub. People were friendly and a good time was had by all.

The purpose of our trip was to meet and “check in” with a couple of our international businesses. They shared with us their goals of 2017 and we, in turn, shared ours, as well as discussed how my team could best support their efforts.  All in all it was a good trip and I got to enjoy a part of the world I’ve never seen before.

The hardest adjustment I had to make was not so much sleep and time zones but, what time people eat dinner. I was in shock when I learned that in Europe, most people eat much later than we do here in the U.S. Once 5 p.m. rolled around, my stomach was desperately searching for food.  So you can imagine my shocked when I found out that even restaurants didn’t open until 7 p.m.  A french co-worker of mine laughed and said, we generally don’t eat until 9 p.m.  My jaw dropped and all I could say was “ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!”

Aside from altering my eating schedule, I can’t say a bad thing about this trip. I even tried escargot for the first time and I have to say…they were pretty good.

If you ever get an opportunity to see Lausanne, I highly recommend it.  You’ll absolutely love it!

Here’s a small video clip of my trip to Lausanne for your viewing pleasure.  Enjoy…
